2019 John Marshall Fellows


Bijan Aboutorabi is a law clerk to the Honorable William H. Pryor Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Beginning in August, he will be a law clerk for the Honorable Amul R. Thapar of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Bijan graduated in 2018 from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was a staff member of The University of Chicago Law Review and founded the book club of the Federalist Society student chapter. Before law school, he worked as a private tutor and taught Ancient Greek and Humane Letters at a charter school. Aboutorabi holds a B.A. in humanities from Yale University.

Annika Boone will soon clerk for Judge Ryan Nelson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  She will next clerk for Justice Thomas Lee of the Utah Supreme Court.  During law school, she worked at the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, the Office of Legal Policy at the U.S. Department of Justice, the Civil Appeals division of the Utah Attorney General’s Office, and DLA Piper.  As a law student, she was president of the Harvard Federalist Society and an executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy. She has co-authored an article forthcoming in the Arizona Law Review.  Boone holds a B.A. in political communication from George Washington University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Nicholas Caluda recently finished a clerkship with Judge Edith Brown Clement on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He previously clerked for Judge Marina Garcia Marmolejo on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. He will join Quinn Emmanuel’s Houston office in the fall of 2019. While in law school, he worked as a summer associate at Baker Botts in Dallas and interned for First Liberty Institute. He served as the executive articles editor on the Notre Dame Law Review and was a Dean’s Circle Fellow. Caluda holds a B.A. in politics from the University of Dallas and a J.D. from the Notre Dame Law School.

Michael Cotton is a J.D. student at the University of Texas School of Law, where he serves as the editor-in-chief of the Texas Law Review and the executive editor of the Texas Review of Law & Politics. After law school, he will clerk for Judge Don Willett on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. During law school, he worked as a law clerk for the Solicitor General of Texas, an intern for Judge Jennifer Walker Elrod on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and as a summer associate at Beck Redden LLP. Cotton holds a B.A. in creative writing from Columbia University.

Josh Craddock recently finished clerking for Chief Judge Timothy M. Tymkovich, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Previously, he worked as a summer associate at Latham & Watkins LLP and Bancroft PLLC, and led the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy as editor-in-chief of its fortieth anniversary volume. Prior to law school, Mr. Craddock managed advocacy teams for several non-profit organizations at the United Nations and participated in negotiations on the Sustainable Development Goals. He has been a contributor to National ReviewFirst ThingsPublic Discourse, and Providence Magazine. Craddock holds a B.A. in politics, philosophy, and economics from The King’s College and a J.D. from the Harvard Law School.

Nicholas M. Gallagher will clerk for Judge Danny Boggs of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit starting in September 2019. He is a future graduate of NYU Law School, where he is editor-in-chief of the NYU Journal of Law & Liberty, vice president of the Federalist Society, and a Bradley Foundation Fellow. In 2018, Nicholas served as a legislative law clerk for the Senate Judiciary Committee during the nomination Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court of the United States. He also worked as a summer associate at Kirkland & Ellis, LLP. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Gallagher was a staff writer at The American Interest and research assistant to Walter Russell Mead. Gallagher has a B.A. from the University of Oxford in classics & English.

Gabriela Gonzalez-Araiza will soon serve as a Constitutional Law Fellow at the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. Ms. Gonzalez-Araiza clerked for Judge S. Kyle Duncan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit during his first year on the federal judiciary. Previously, she worked as a litigation associate at WilmerHale. In law school, Ms. Gonzalez-Araiza was co-president of the Federalist Society and senior editor of the Berkeley Business Law Journal. She also worked as a research assistant for Professor John Yoo. Gonzalez-Araiza holds an A.B. in politics from Princeton University and a J.D. from UC Berkeley School of Law.

Alexander Kazam recently finished clerking for Justices Neil M. Gorsuch and Anthony M. Kennedy of the United States Supreme Court.  He previously clerked for Judge Raymond M. Kethledge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and Judge Richard J. Sullivan of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Kazam holds a J.D. from Yale Law School and a B.A. in government from Harvard College.

Andrea Ludtke will soon clerk for Chief Judge Barbara M.G. Lynn, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. She will then clerk for Judge Carlos T. Bea, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Previously, she worked as a summer associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in Dallas and externed for Judge Otis D. Wright II, U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. In law school, she served as an associate editor of the UCLA Law Review and as vice chairwoman of the Federalist Society. Before law school, she worked for four years as a television news producer for the Fox Business Network and Bloomberg Television in New York City. She holds a B.A. in journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill and a J.D. from the UCLA School of Law.

Meredith Pohl clerks for the Honorable Rhesa H. Barksdale, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.  She will next clerk for the Honorable Allison H. Eid, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.  She previously worked as a summer associate for King & Spalding LLP, and as a summer legal intern with the United States Department of Justice: Civil Division, Office of Immigration Litigation—Appellate Staff.  Pohl holds a B.A. in political science, with minors in economics and French, from Purdue University, and a J.D. from Ole Miss Law School.

Zachary Reynolds is a J.D. student at the University of Chicago Law School, where he serves as a staffer for the Law Review and a former chairman of the Edmund Burke Society, a conservative debating society. After law school, he will clerk for the Honorable Edith Jones of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Previously, he worked as a summer associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and McKool Smith, and externed for the Honorable Raymond Gruender of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He also worked for a year as a research assistant on the official biography of Sir Winston Churchill. Reynolds holds a B.A. in philosophy and theology from Thomas Aquinas College and a M.A. in politics from Hillsdale College.

Libby Stropko will clerk for the Honorable Judge Kevin C. Newsom, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.  She will next clerk for the Honorable Judge Trevor N. McFadden, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.  She previously worked as a summer associate at Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C. and as an intern for the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Competition.  During law school, she served as an articles editor for the Virginia Law Review and participated in the Supreme Court Litigation Clinic.  Prior to law school, Ms. Stropko traveled to universities around the country as a national leadership consultant for Chi Omega Fraternity.  She holds a B.S. in business administration (finance) from the University of Arizona and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.

Eric Wessan clerks for James C. Ho, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He previously worked as a summer associate at Kirkland & Ellis LLP and Keller Lenkner LLC and he interned for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois. While at the University of Chicago Law School, he was president of the Federalist Society Chapter, which won the James Madison Chapter of the Year Award and for which he was awarded the Patrick Henry Award for Leadership. He was an articles editor for The University of Chicago Legal Forum. Prior to law school, he was the vice consul for policy & communications for the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office in Chicago.  Wessan holds a B.A. in political science from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.

Karl Worsham currently clerks for Judge Carolyn B. McHugh on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He previously clerked for Judge Charles F. Lettow on the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. He will next clerk for Judge Joan L. Larsen on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Prior to his clerkships, Karl interned for Justice Thomas R. Lee on the Utah Supreme Court and worked in the Office of the Utah Attorney General, both in the Constitutional Section and the Appellate Department. As a law student, he served as managing editor of the Harvard Environmental Law Review and executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy. Worsham holds a B.A. in philosophy from Brigham Young University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
