Micah Bock

Micah Bock currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Communications for Congressman Lance Gooden. He is also the founder of The S.F.P. Group, leveraging his expertise to guide high-profile political and corporate clients through complex communication challenges. During his tenure on Capitol Hill, Micah has utilized close relationships with national media, local press, and industry experts to build national narratives, navigate complex political crises, and consistently deliver effective communications products to decision makers at both the federal and state level. A graduate of Patrick Henry College, Micah earned his B.A. in Strategic Intelligence in National Security in 2020. In addition to his professional achievements, Micah is an avid traveler, amateur photographer, and enjoys long walks on the beach while scrolling X.

What is your current position?
I’m the Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Communications for Congressman Lance Gooden and the Founder and President of S.F.P. Consulting Group.

What inspired you to choose this career path?
A firmly held belief that I have a moral duty to stand against the degradation of our culture and the destruction of our country.

What are you currently working on?
Reversing the shocking impacts of decades of government malpractice. Securing the border, defunding government subsidized human trafficking organizations masquerading as nonprofits, and recapturing American ideals and American culture.

How did you hear about the Claremont Institute?
Through my older brother, who worked in the first Trump White House, and was connected to the Institute through his colleagues.

What is your fondest memory of the Claremont Institute?
The thoughtful and earnest conversations following each day of lectures, that often continued late into the evening. The like-minded convictions displayed by my fellow colleagues, and the call to action that each lecturer emphasized in their talks.

What do you think makes the Claremont Institute’s Fellowships unique?
Claremont trains its fellows to take action, to fight, and to win. There is a heavy emphasis on action, rather than just philosophizing about what could be.

If you could have a fireside chat with an American Founder, or any great thinker, who would it be, why, and what would you discuss?
Patrick Henry, I would want his take on how conservatives today should wield power to dismantle the administrative state.

Who was more important for their time, George Washington or Abraham Lincoln? Why?
Washington. He set the tone for what American statesmanship ought to look like, and was the man the hour demanded.

Through the lens of history, in which one of the original 13 colonies would you have wanted to live and why?
Virginia. It was home to some of the greatest minds of the revolution, and horse country is horse country regardless of what era you’re living in.

What would the artifact be, if you could hold one piece of history from the early founding of our country and why?
Washington’s resignation letter to Congress. It’s the single greatest American example of a leader voluntarily giving up power for the good of the nation. Alternatively, the coat he wore during the French and Indian war that was apparently pierced by over seven rounds during one battle. Strength under fire is something to be admired.

What qualities do you believe are necessary to achieve great statesmanship in the current political climate?
Fearlessness, an understanding of power, and the will to use it.

What checklist do you mentally go through to achieve effective and truthful communication? Can you give us an idea of how you approach the process?

1. Cut the fluff.
2. Speak in a way real people understand.
3. If the corporate media hates it, you’re probably on the right track.
4. Make sure the message can’t be twisted or watered down.
5. Drive the narrative, create your own playing field, and never react to the Left’s framing.

What do you believe will be one of the greatest challenges facing the Trump Administration and why?
The Administrative state, and its ability to act in a de facto dictatorial fashion by standing in the way of Executive action. I think Trump clearly realizes this, as DOGE and other entities are swiftly working to corral and contain these bureaucratic entities from standing in the way of POTUS.

What books are you currently reading?
The Benedict Option by Rod Dreher, and Hillbilly Elegy by JD Vance.

What book, film, or speech has left a lasting impression on you and why?
Donald Trump’s First Inaugural Address. As a college freshman, his election was the first I could vote in, and the massive political shift his election heralded coincided with an increased personal focus on politics.

Do you have a favorite quote? Is there a reason this quote resonates so strongly with you?
The last lines from Ulysses by Tennyson. “We are not now that strength which in old days Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts, Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.” This period in history requires men who will not yield.

What is the most distinctive attribute/character of the people in the state where you grew up that you genuinely admire?
Hoosiers don’t tolerate nonsense. They have common sense, they work hard, and they love their neighbors.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
One thing I’ve learned is that I can make plans, but God opens doors. I anticipate continuing to serve in politics and government, likely in the communications space.

What is your favorite cultural/recreational pastime (or hobby) and why?
Traveling, hiking, and camping. I find that losing myself in nature is the best and most effective reset for the stresses of Washington.
