2022 John Marshall Fellows


Natalee Allenbaugh is a law clerk to Judge M. Miller Baker of the United States Court of International Trade. She previously clerked for Judge Gregory E. Maggs of the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and completed a fellowship at the DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs. As a law student, she was Co-President of The George Washington University Law School Federalist Society and served as a Notes Editor on the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal. Additionally, she was a member of the law school’s Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition Quarterfinalist team at the U.S. Mid-Atlantic Regional, and she co-chaired George Washington’s internal Van Vleck Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition. She holds a B.A., cum laude, in History, Sociology, and Political Science from Pepperdine University and a J.D., with Honors, from The George Washington University Law School.

Allison Allman is currently clerking for Judge Lawrence VanDyke on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  She previously clerked for Judge Reed O’Connor in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas and worked as an associate at Jackson Walker LLP, focusing on complex litigation and appeals.  She earned her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law, where she served as the Editor in Chief of the Texas Review of Law & Politics.  Allison graduated summa cum laude from Baylor University with a B.A. in Political Science and minor in Business Administration.

Kaitlyn Barry is a trial attorney in Chicago. Prior to her current position, she clerked for Judge Kurt Engelhardt at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and Judge Ron Clark at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. While in law school, Kaitlyn served as vice president of the Federalist Society and was a member of the law school’s national moot court and mock trial competition teams. Kaitlyn holds a B.S. from the University of Texas at Austin and a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center.

Zachary Grouev is a law clerk to the Honorable Andrew L. Brasher of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Next year, he will return to his home state of Florida to serve as a Fellow in Solicitor General Henry C. Whitaker’s office. He will then clerk for the Honorable Kathryn K. Mizelle of the Middle District of Florida in Tampa. Mr. Grouev holds a B.A. in Political Science from Vanderbilt University and a J.D. with honors from Harvard Law School. At Harvard, he worked as an Executive Editor for the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy and the Harvard International Law Journal and as a Deputy Executive Editor for the Harvard National Security Journal. During law school, he also served as a research assistant for Professor Jack Goldsmith and the Harvard Law School Program on International Law and Armed Conflict; a summer associate at Baker & McKenzie in Washington, DC; and an intern to the Honorable Dabney L. Friedrich of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Paul Ingrassia is a 2022 graduate of Cornell Law School and will start this fall as a litigation associate for the New York City office of Kasowitz, Benson, and Torres. During law school, Paul was the Senior Online Editor for the Cornell Journal of Law & Public Policy and Managing Editor for the LII Supreme Court Bulletin. Paul was also enrolled in the SEC’s Student Honors Program, where he worked for the FSIO Group in the Fall of 2021. Paul’s scholarly writings, which have ranged in subject matter from constitutional theory to securities law to cryptocurrencies, have been published in the Virginia Law and Business Review, the Cornell JLPP, and the Federal Lawyer. Paul is currently finalizing a series of essays under the working title The Crisis of Constitutionalism: How Originalism’s Failure Forces a Revisitation of Natural Right, due for publication later this year. Paul holds a B.A. in Mathematics & Economics from Fordham University and was formerly a Publius Fellow (2020). Before law school, Paul interned for President Trump’s NEC and co-hosted a successful podcast that interviewedMichael Anton, Candace Owens, and Patrick Deneen, among other prominent thought leaders. Paul plans to pursue a federal clerkship after some time in private practice.

Cole Jester will soon begin clerking for Chief Judge Lavenski R. Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He is a 2022 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was the Managing Editor of the Journal of Law and Politics, on the leadership team of the Federalist Society, and an active member of the Law Christian Fellowship and the Rod and Gun Club. During law school, he worked as a summer associate for Friday, Eldredge & Clark LLP, as a clerk for the Arkansas Solicitor General, and for the United States Air Force. Cole is a lifelong Arkansan. He holds a B.A. in Christian Studies and Political Science from Ouachita Baptist University, summa cum lade, where he was the chair of the university-wide honors program and selected as the top student in the field of biblical studies.

Razi Lane currently clerks for Judge Mark S. Norris of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. He will clerk next term for Judge Michael S. Kanne of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. While in law school, Razi served as Managing Senior Articles Editor of the Notre Dame Journal of International and Comparative Law, Vice President of Notre Dame’s Christian Legal Society Chapter, and as an oralist for the Moot Court Board’s Showcase Team. Razi externed for Judge John R. Blakey of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and spent his summers at the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Legal Policy and U.S. Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals. He holds a J.D. with honors from Notre Dame Law School and a B.A. in Politics and History from Hillsdale College, where he served as Class President.

Christian McGuire will soon begin clerking for the Honorable Edith H. Jones of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He will next clerk for the Honorable Kathryn Kimball Mizelle of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. He is a 2022 graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, where he was Chairman of the Edmund Burke Society, internal vice president of the Federalist Society Chapter, and a Bastiat Fellow at the Mercatus Center. He served as a staff editor for the University of Chicago Legal Forum and as a symposium editor for the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy. He also worked as a research assistant for Professor Richard Epstein. Before law school, he worked as a communications associate for the Mercatus Center. Christian holds a B.A. in Government from Patrick Henry College.

Jamie McWilliam is an incoming associate at Kirkland & Ellis LLP. He will next clerk for Judge Lawrence VanDyke in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Previously, he worked in tech startups and provided pro bono services for the First Liberty Institute and Massachusetts Citizens for Life. While at Harvard Law School, he served as an editor for the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy and the Harvard Journal of Law &Technology, and wrote with Professors Robert Sitkoff and Jack Goldsmith. One of his papers, titled The Unconstitutionality of Unfinished Receiver Bans,was recently published in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy Per Curiam.He was also involved in the Harvard Federalist Society, Harvard Law Students for Life, and the Harvard Space Law Society. Prior to law school, he worked in product development and as a patent agent. He graduated with highest honors from Montana State University with a degree in mechanical engineering.

David Rosenthal is an associate at Consovoy McCarthy PLLC, where he assists clients with a variety of litigation and appellate matters. He previously served as a law clerk to Judge Joel M. Carson III of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, Judge Benjamin J. Beaton of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky, and Judge James A. Teilborg of the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona. He has also served as a visiting legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation, where he wrote about contemporary issues in criminal, constitutional, and administrative law. David earned his B.S.B.A. in Finance from Northeastern University, and his J.D. and M.B.A. from the University of Arizona.

Bryan Sohn is currently clerking for Judge John B. Nalbandian of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2020. He was Co-President of the Harvard Catholic Law Students Association, Media Director of the Harvard Federalist Society, Executive Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, and Executive Submissions Editor of the Harvard Journal on Legislation. Bryan earned his B.A. in History, First Class, from the University of Oxford, where he served as President of the Newman Society. Bryan will return to Gibson Dunn’s Dallas office after his clerkship.

Isaac Weitzhandler is currently a law clerk for Judge Ryan D. Nelson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He earned his J.D. from Stanford Law School, as well as a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University. After his clerkship, he will work as a federal prosecutor in San Francisco.
