Basker is a Professor of English and the Richard Gilder Professor of Literary History at Barnard College, Columbia University, and President of the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. His most recent book is Amazing Grace: An Anthology of Poems about Slavery 1660-1810 (Yale University Press).
