A firestorm of controversy has erupted in Minneapolis over the spread of gang violence, and the city officials' wholly inadequate response. The spark of this conflagration was set by our friends, and Institute Fellows, Scott Johnson and John Hinderaker.

Something similar occurs in politics, where rotting policies and moldering ideologies must sometimes be burned out and replaced with clear thinking and effective action. Johnson and Hinderaker understand this well, and — in the best tradition of patriotic self-government — are forcing a public debate on this vital subject.
