Muhammed Syed is the Director of Programs at the Claremont Institute.

He supports the coordination of the Claremont Institute’s Publius, Lincoln, and Marshall Fellowships. He is also the line producer of the Claremont Institute’s video web series: The American Mind.

Prior to becoming Director of Programs,he worked at the Claremont Institute as a Research Assistant. Mr. Syed is also a doctoral student at Claremont Graduate University, and he will write

his dissertation on civil-military relations and foreign policy. He holds a B.A. in Political Science and History from the University of Connecticut and an M.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College, Annapolis.

Muhammed was born in Al Kut, Iraq, before moving to America with his family. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps when he was 17 and traveled back to Iraq, serving in Operation Iraq Freedom I and II. He was awarded the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and a Presidential Unit Citation. He left the Marine Corps with the rank of Sergeant.

Mr. Syed has taught American military politics and history at Claremont McKenna College. He lives in Claremont, CA.
