John Akin

John Akin will soon clerk for Judge Jackson L. Kiser of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia and, then, Judge Jerome A. Holmes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He was a Presidential Fellow with the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress, where he studied the relationship between William Howard Taft's presidency and Chief Justiceship. Mr. Akin holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and a B.S. in Economics and International Affairs from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

 

MaryLou Andrews

MaryLou Andrews will soon clerk for Judge James O. Browning of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico. She previously worked for the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity and the Nebraska Appleseed Center for Law in the Public Interest. Ms. Andrews received her J.D. from Baylor Law School and her B.A. in Communications from Concordia University.

 

James Barta

James Barta will soon clerk for Judge Stephen J. Murphy, III of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and then for Judge Raymond M. Kethledge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He previously worked for the Department of Justice and the Indiana Solicitor General. Mr. Barta holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. in Government from Patrick Henry College.

 

Michael Buschbacher

Michael Buschbacher will soon clerk for Magistrate Judge Paul R. Cherry of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. He has worked in the Criminal Appeals division of the Office of the Indiana Attorney General and for the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates through the Alliance Defending Freedom's Blackstone Fellowship. He received his J.D. from the Notre Dame Law School, where he served as President of the Christian Legal Society, and earned his B.A. in Music and Germanic Studies from Indiana University.

 

Scott Glabe

Scott Glabe is a clerk for Judge Jerry E. Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He previously worked at the White House and served on active duty as a United States Navy officer deployed to Afghanistan. Mr. Glabe holds a J.D. from Yale Law School, an M.S. in Defense and Strategic Studies from Missouri State University, and an A.B. in Government from Dartmouth College.

 

William Haun

William Haun will soon clerk for Judge Claude M. Hilton of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He previously worked for Administrative Law Judge Linda S. Chapman at the Department of Labor and for Judge Scott W. Stucky of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. Mr. Haun received a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University and a B.A. in Political Science at American University.

 

Christopher Lacaria

Christopher Lacaria will soon clerk for Judge Diarmuid F. O'Scannlain of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He previously worked for Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP and Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP, and, prior to law school, in investment banking. Mr. Lacaria holds a J.D. from Yale Law School and an A.B. in History from Harvard College, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Salient.

 

Christopher Mills

Christopher Mills is a clerk for Chief Judge David B. Sentelle of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He previously worked for Chief Judge Alice Batchelder of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the U.S. Attorney's Office in South Carolina, and served as Senior Editor of the Harvard Law Review. Mr. Mills received a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. in Economics from Furman University.

 

Bethany Rupert

Bethany Rupert will soon clerk for Chief Judge Alice Batchelder of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She currently works for Cause of Action, and has worked for Judge Lawrence J. Block of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and at the Alliance Defense Fund. She holds a J.D. from George Mason University School of Law and a B.A. in Political Science and Communications from Grove City College.

 

Matthew Schmitten

Matthew Schmitten will soon clerk for Judge Jerry E. Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He previously worked for Judge Richard J. Sullivan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice. Mr. Schmitten received a J.D. from Columbia Law School and a B.A. in Law and Society from American University.

 

David Shaw

David Shaw is an associate at Covington & Burling LLP, where he focuses on antitrust and election law. During the 2012 campaign, he served on the Romney Readiness Project as a member of the Federal Trade Commission and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Planning Team. Mr. Shaw received a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. in Government from Patrick Henry College.

 

Levi Swank

Levi Swank will soon clerk for Chief Judge Alice M. Batchelder of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He has worked at Goodwin Proctor LLP and the Heritage Foundation's Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. Mr. Swank also served as Executive Editor of the Virginia Law Review. He holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and a B.A. in Government from Patrick Henry College.

 

Eric Werlinger

Eric Werlinger is a clerk for Judge Danny J. Boggs of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He previously worked for Judge Royce Lamberth of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and Judge Sim Lake of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Mr. Werlinger received a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and a B.A. in Political Science and History from Texas A&M University.

 

Zach West

Zach West will soon clerk for Judge Bobby R. Baldock of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He currently clerks for Judge J. Leon Holmes of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas, and he previously worked as a sports reporter for Oklahoma's largest newspaper. Mr. West holds a J.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Law and a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma.

 

Philip Williamson

Philip Williamson will soon clerk for Judge Lavenski R. Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He previously worked for Bracewell & Giuliani, Jones Day, and the Alliance Defense Fund. Mr. Williamson received a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and a B.A. in Philosophy, Political Science, and Theology from Ouachita Baptist University.
